Post vacay ramblings
So I returned from a short vacation in the NC mountains yesterday and I have to say that this was one of the the best vacations I've EVER had! On the way there (we drove), I couldn't stop thinking about how people could live so far away from water/the beach but it didn't take me long to "get it".
We purposely drove down 81 from Maryland because I wanted the 'mountain views", and boy was it worth it! The views were absolutely amazing and NOW I understand how/why people live so far inland, at least in the mountains. On the way down, we also stopped at Luray Caverns and that was pretty interesting too! It was a surprise stop for my daughter who wants to study Geotechnical Engineering, then complete a PhD in Geology, so she was thrilled to be there! OTOH, I was VERY scared to 16 stories underground!!!
On the way to my sister/cousin's house in Ashville, we also drove through the town of one of the schools which is recruiting me to apply to their med school. And while the city itself was beautifully nestled in the mountains, I guess you could say that I'm looking for a little more "diversity" in the city I live in while attending med school. And the fact is that I'm a true city girl at heart.
Speaking of med school, I'm now counting down until I start mailing my transcript requests for AMCAS out in May, having previously gathered ALL the addresses of the 10+ institutions I've attended post high school. I'm still working on my personal statement, but have that mostly completed. I'm also still thinking about the schools I want to apply to, given my choice to attend a school in an urban environment so I can mare easily get my "health disparities" on. And yes, internal medicine is still at the top of my career consideration!!
This last shot is at the top of the Pisgah Mountains in North Carolina and I'm also including a link for your reading pleasure.

And perhaps on my next post, I'll talk about how mouth watering good the bar-b-q in the region of the country is!!! Yum!!!
